New Laptop Computer Comments

Bought a new computer today. A Toshiba Satellite A75-S206. It's a fairly big machine, but is very powerful. Especially since every spec outdoes my desktop, including the screen size. Some of my favorite things, nice 15.4" widescreen XGA LCD and the 802.11g wireless. While I love the 54Mb speed, I was suprised that I was able to get 108Mb connections sometimes too. The Atheros Wi-Fi has one of those unstandard 108Mb modes, but I was under the impression that the router would need to be from the same manufacturer. But the shiny new Linsys router seems to support that too. :D

I'm thinking of buying the Satellite A60-S166 which runs on the same P4 chip as your A70. I like the specs and the price too. But I'm not sure if the chip produces too much heat. Can you share with me your expericne? Many thanks.

Compared to the last laptop that I had, a PIII, this either produces much less heat, or the fans are much better. After a bit of use, there is a fair amount of heat that comes out of the rear exhaust, but the bottom of the machine can actually be cold at some times. Plus, unlike my PIII laptop, the fan isn't always running, it will power on and off depending on the heat, so I have a feeling that the CPU runs cooler.

Hey I have a toshiba satellite a75 s206 also. I cant find my recovery disk and i was having a problem. My wireless web icon disappeared off the toolbar so I had rebooted my laptop and it still was not there. I was still able to get online using an ethernet cable, however my computer wont pick that up now either. Does anyone know where I can find an online copy of the recovery cd or how to get the icons back??? Thanks ~1ne~
